DMB Rocks
This was my first DMB show and it absolutely rocked. Their extended jams didn't get too ponderous. The songs really killed, and the arrangements impressed. One of the things that stood out to me was their production. The stage was simple--musicians and instruments. However, their video and light effects were truly cool. Instead of explosions and sparklers, they alternated between live shots and recorded video, often showcasing up to three players at once. The synchronized images and lights with the music created a larger-than-life experience.
To be honest, I am not that familiar with his music, but my son is a huge fan. For his birthday, I got the tix (and he let me go with him). Every band member, including Tim Reynolds, the space man, was on point. That guy seems to be from a different planet.
My only criticism for the entire show was what they didn't play. The main song from the latest album, "Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King," is "Why I am," and they didn't perform it. Despite this small critique, the show lasted over two hours without a break, with an additional encore. In total, the show was about 2 1/2 hours of fun, rock, and top-notch production. It definitely did not disappoint the thousands of die-hard DMB fans present.
